At Portlethen Academy, our dedicated Science Faculty aims to inspire curiosity and a love of learning in every pupil. Through engaging lessons and practical experiences, we help students explore the world around them and develop key skills in investigation, analysis, and critical thinking. We are committed to supporting all learners to reach their full potential and to see the many opportunities that science can offer, both in and beyond the classroom.
Streets Ahead is a STEM design challenge run by V&A Dundee aimed at S1/2 students asking them to redesign their local shopping centre or high street. The project aims to encourage collaboration across subject areas to create a more sustainable, inclusive, and accessible shopping experience for members of the community.
Six S1 pupils showed fantastic collaboration and teamwork skills, recreating a new and improved model of Portlethen retail park. As finalists in the 'Streets Ahead' competition, they have now been invited back to the V&A next month for another workshop and to view their model on display in the museum. They have also won a trip to Sky studios to experience creating a news report based around their eco-friendly and sustainable model of Portlethen shopping complex.
