Every young person in Portlethen Academy has a Guidance Teacher who will teach them Personal and Social Education for one period a week. In PSE pupils will cover topics including Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood, Substance misuse, as well Planning for Choices and Change. As part of our PSE curriculum we welcome other agency supports throughout S1-3 such as Skills Development Scotland & ALEC Educators. As pupils get older and make more choices for personalisation and choice within their learning, pupils in S4-6 continue to have PSE once a week with inputs becoming more targetted to pupil progression and their personal and professional growth.
CURRICULUM MAP FOR S1, S2 & S3
Whilst all pupils S1-6 have a period of PSE on their timetable each week, there is no expectations for classes to complete homework. However, pupils may be encouraged to complete key tasks at home if time has not allowed in class.
In the Senior Phase, pupils are expected to use some of the study techniques discussed/suggested during class time at home.
Many topics in PSE relate to life outside of the classroom and school, and it is hoped that pupils bare this information in mind, especially in challenging situations.
Every young person at Portlethen Academy will be helped and supported to move on from school when the time is right for them. We work closely with colleagues from North East Scotland College Homepage - North East Scotland College and have a growing number of pupils apply to university every year through UCAS as well.
