Welcome to the Faculty of English.

Our faculty is committed to providing a dynamic and supportive learning environment where every young person is encouraged to achieve their full potential, both within English and beyond. Through the development of reading, writing, talking and listening skills, we aim to help learners think critically, solve problems creatively and express themselves with confidence. We believe these skills prepare pupils for the wider world of work, further study and life beyond school.

Reading is central to everything we do within the faculty, both in class and through personal reading. We are delighted that the school has now achieved the Reading Schools Award, recognising the enthusiasm and commitment shown by staff and pupils in promoting a positive reading culture across the school community.

We are delighted to announce that our school has successfully achieved the Reading Schools Award, recognising the hard work of staff and pupils in promoting a positive reading culture across the school community.

Throughout the year, the Reading Schools Team has encouraged reading in a variety of engaging ways. Junior classes visit the library each week to enjoy reading time and activities organised by Mrs Mackintosh, with “Library Jenga” remaining a firm favourite. New books are also promoted through the daily bulletin using QR codes, while pupil leaders add hand-decorated bookmarks to Young Adult Fiction books to encourage pupils to try something new.

A particular highlight was World Book Day, when staff shared photos of themselves reading and several members of staff surprised pupils by dressing as famous book characters — Mischief Managed!

Achieving the Reading Schools Award is a fantastic accomplishment and reflects the enthusiasm and commitment shown by everyone involved in making reading an important part of school life.
