Progression Routes
This course prepares pupils for further study in National 4/5 Graphic Communication in the Senior Phase, as well as other design-related courses like Design & Manufacture or Engineering Science. It also provides a solid foundation for future career pathways in areas such as creative industries, digital media, architecture, or engineering. In addition, the course helps develop essential core skills that are valuable across all areas of learning, work, and life.
National 4/5 Graphic Communication is a course that helps you develop skills in creating and interpreting graphical information. You will learn to use manual drawing techniques and CAD software to produce 2D and 3D technical drawings, including architectural plans and engineering diagrams. You’ll also explore design layouts, colour theory, and presentation graphics. By the end of the course, you will be able to communicate ideas effectively through visuals.
Higher Graphic Communication builds on the skills learned at National 5, offering more advanced study in areas like complex technical drawings, 3D modelling, and presentation techniques. This course challenges you to solve real-world problems through graphic design and to work on more sophisticated design projects, developing both your technical and creative skills. It’s a great choice if you’re interested in pursuing careers in architecture, engineering, or product design.
