Progression Routes
This course provides a strong foundation for progression into National 4 or 5 Engineering Science in S4, followed by Higher Engineering Science. It also supports further study in STEM subjects such as Physics, Maths, Computing Science, and Technologies. Pupils may go on to pursue Foundation Apprenticeships in Engineering or related fields, as well as higher education or career pathways in areas such as mechanical, electrical, civil, or electronic engineering.
National 4/5 Engineering Science introduces you to the world of engineering by exploring key concepts such as mechanical systems, electronics, and structures. You will learn to apply science and maths to solve practical engineering problems, use tools and technologies, and understand how engineering affects the world around us. The course prepares you for designing, building, and testing simple systems.
Higher Engineering Science builds on National 5, offering more in-depth study of advanced engineering concepts like materials, automation, and sustainable technologies. You will develop higher-level problem-solving skills, analyse complex systems, and explore real-world engineering challenges. It’s ideal for those considering careers in engineering, technology, or related fields.
A good understanding of maths is required in these courses. Applications of Maths is not accepted for entry.
