CURRICULUM MAP FOR S1 & S2
Broad & General Education Course (S1-2)
S1 and 2 Courses
In S1 pupils cover a mixture of level 3 biology, chemistry and physics topics including:
· Introduction to Science and Mixtures and Solubility
· Models of Matter
· CSI (PBL Project)
· STEM Careers
· Forces
· Energy
· Body Systems
· Reproduction
· Elements and the Periodic Table
In S2 pupils continue to cover all 3 sciences and get to experience the following topics:
· Agriculture and Photosynthesis
· Environmental Biology
· Electricity
· Waves
· Chemical Reactions
· Acids and Alkalis
· Microbes and Disease
· Earth’s Resources
· Space
S3 SCIENCE
In S3, if pupils do not wish to specialise in the three specific Sciences (Biology, CHemsitry, Physics), Level 3/4 Science builds upon and revisits some of the experiences and outcomes encountered in S1 and 2.
Pupils will cover topics across all three sciences at level 3 and 4 level. This course allows pupils to build upon their skills and experiences providing them with a good foundation to move onto National 4 Science/Biology/Chemistry/Physics in S4. As the course includes all three sciences it gives pupils an additional opportunity to discover which science they enjoy learning about the most through both theory and practical science.
The topics to be covered up to level 4 are:
• The Environment
• The Body
• Chemical Reactions
• Plastics
• Space
• Electricity
Pupils are assessed and given feedback regularly. They are made aware of their progress and how they can improve throughout the course, moving towards learning in the senior phase, where they will hopefully progress onto an SQA level course.
*This course is aimed at pupils who have achieved Level 2 by the end of 2nd year or who have found the pace of learning in science throughout S1 and 2 a challenge but wish to continue learning in the Faculty in S3.

In progress
The Science Faculty offers a STEM group to juniors which supports entry into various STEM competitions.
The S1 team last year were finalists in the V&A ‘Streets Ahead’ competition and experienced a day at Sky Studios creating their own news report.
There is also the annual trip to SubSea Expo exhibition offered to Senior Students to experience STEM careers in the offshore industry.
