The Girls in Energy course is a year-long programme designed to inspire S3 girls to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), with a strong focus on the energy sector. Delivered in partnership with NESCol and Shell UK, the course supports young women to gain industry knowledge, hands-on experience, and recognised qualifications.
Course Content
Introduction to the energy industry, with a focus on both traditional and renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydro power.
Hands-on practical activities and projects involving energy systems, tools, and equipment.
Site visits to local energy companies and facilities to gain real-world industry insight.
Classroom sessions covering energy generation, sustainability, environmental impact, and health & safety.
Work towards achieving the National 5 Skills for Work: Energy qualification (SCQF Level 5).

Progression Routes
Pupils who complete the Girls in Energy course are well-prepared to progress into National 5 a STEM subjects such as Physics, Engineering Science, and Practical Technologies. The course also opens pathways into Foundation Apprenticeships in Engineering, Construction, or Energy, further study at NESCol or other colleges, and potential entry into Modern Apprenticeships or employment within the energy and engineering sectors.
