In Humanities at Portlethen Academy, we explore the world and the people who shape it. Our subjects — Geography, History, Modern Studies, and RMPS — help pupils understand how our planet works, how societies have developed, and how beliefs and values influence the world today. We want our young people to think for themselves, ask questions, and see how what they learn in class links to real life. Through active and engaging lessons, pupils build skills for learning, life, and work — from problem-solving and teamwork to communication and critical thinking — helping them grow into confident, informed and responsible citizens.
Our Humanities team is passionate about bringing learning to life. The faculty is led by Mrs Meynet, Principal Teacher of Humanities, who teaches Geography and Modern Studies. She is joined by Dr Hill (Geography), Dr Graham (Modern Studies), Miss Povilonyte (RMPS), and Mr Cunningham (RMPS) Miss McGroarty (Modern Studies), Miss Hill (History and Modern Studies), and Mr Ross (History), . Together, we aim to make Humanities engaging, inclusive, and relevant for every learner at Portlethen Academy
