Developing the Young Workforce (DYW)
Helping our pupils to prepare for life beyond the classroom
Alexis Malcolmson is our DYW North East Employer School Co-ordinator. Alexis is in school every week and works closely with Mrs Copner (PT DYW) and class teachers, liaising with partners who then contribute to and enhance curricular and wider curricular activities.
Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) makes it easier for employers and schools to connect and equip young people for the world of work. They place a key part in the delivery of the Young Person’s Guarantee.
Our regional DYW group – DYW North East – supports secondary schools in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, including Portlethen Academy. They help us to build links with local businesses and other partner organisations. Through DYW North East, our young people gain access to industry professionals and other partners who give them insights into different job roles and the routes into them. The activities facilitated by DYW North East also encourage our pupils to develop the skills they’ll need for the world of work.
Example activities include:
Mock interviews
Classroom presentations
Interactive sessions
Site visits to an employer’s premises
and more.
